I dont remember what its called, but you wont loose signal until about 1000 feet on a Cat5

if there is lots of electrostatic or electronics its called noise or line noise

Attenuation - The process of weakening in intensity.

Electronics. To reduce (the amplitude of an electrical signal) with little or no distortion.

The maximum length of CAT5 is 100 meters (about 300 feet). You won't have any signal at all at 1000 feet.
