I use Veritas BackUp Exec 7.3 to back up the file server. I recently change the Seagate tape drive from DDS2 to DDS4 catridge.
Now with the new tape drive, each time I make a backup with option to verify enabled, the job fails, and the BackupExec reports :
"An inconsistency was found on the media in drive DRIVE0"
"2500 files were verified, 4 files were different"

Every time I do a backup job with the verify option enabled, some files were different after the verify procedure. But, when make a restore of the files that were different, everything seems to be OK: the restore was successfull and the restored files work fine.
What could make it impossible for Backup Exec to verify the files?

I would check that you have the latest drivers for the SCSI card. Next, check you have the correct drivers for the actual tape drive and lastly check whether or not there is a firmware update available for the tape drive and install it.

Depending on the make of the tape drive there you should be able to download some diagnostic programs from their site and run those too.
