Hi
Our office recently purchased a CD Writer and we are trying to create a backup of our WINNT Server cd to send to our regional office in Dallas. Unfortuneately everytime we try to create the CD image it tells us that the cd volume size is to large to write to media. The server cd volume size is approx. 611 mb however the image created size comes closer to 700mb!!! I do not understand what the heck is going on. Since our NT SERVER is a licensed copy I cannot see why there are any problems creating a backup. The CD image format we are using is ISO. If anyone has any answers please let my know.

Thanks in Advance,

Adrian M. Stone

heres the solution to your problem:

you said your originial CD is around 700mb and the target CD is just 611mb. As you see, this cannot really fit - you are trying to put 700mb out of 611!

well heres the tip!!!
just copy the files you need like
-i386 directory (if you are using i386)
-drivers
-etc.
leave others that you dont need like ALPHA or other else. (i suppose you already know what is ALPHA, I386, etc).

BUT theres a disadvantage there.... copying files and not the CD to CD method will make your Target CD not bootable (since your NTserver CD is bootable)! well, i cannot help you on this matter. try to consult others on how to make your cd bootable and pls give me feedback.

OK? hope this will help!!! goodluck!!!

GIMME FEEDBACK!!!! email me!

Microsoft uses your "problem" as a form of copy protection. The actual cd image (iso) is inflated upon extraction to prevent cd copying. The reason for this is even though you have purchased 1 cd/license,you are not legally entitled to make another copy. You have only purchased a 1-site license! IF you really want to backup the cd... select all the contents of the cd and drag to your hard drive, then burn all those files to a cd as a single data track.
