Subject: AWE64 won't play audio cds
Comment:

i have a soundblaster awe64 value installed on NT 4.0 workstation (dual booted with win 95). It plays most audio files fine (e.g. wavs)in NT, but when it comes to playing audio cds, no sound is heard, even though the cd player is working. I have no problems with sound in win 95. i have tried installing drivers from the creative cd, gone to the creative webpage and downloaded awent40, reinstalled service pack 4, and have tried older drivers. This all seems to end up in the same place- sounds is ok except for audio cds.

Any advice/help would be appreciated.

We have had that problem here too. I am willing to bet that the headphone jack on the cd rom will play audio cd's just fine. What we had to do was to run cord from the headphone jack on the cd rom to the in put port of the soundcard and then the cd's would play through the speakers that are plugged into the soundcard.

just make sure the cdrom is is hooked up to the sound card with a thin wire (i dont know what the wire is called exactly) and that should do it. i should know cause i resolved that EXACT same isssue this morning on my nt box

one of the big probs with awe64 is getting it to run with nt with service pack 3 installed.

you will be asked to provide our service pack floppy and you don't have one.

If you search around using awe64 soundblaster
as keywords on the web you will find the
download that will make it GO

it worked for me

however on my second reboot I lost my dmii pool verification and I am so screwed.....

I have no idea if one prob produced the other

good luck.

and if you have any suggestions re dmi pool verification .........success

hang

let me know!
thanks

GP

thanks to all those who have sent me suggestions. however, i have had no luck. i have installed service pack 5 to see if it has changed the situation, but it hasn't. i now simply convert the audio files to mp3 files in win95 and play them through nt (no problems).

thanks again
