Hi all! I recently acquired some new hardware and am looking for advice on setting it up. At the link below, you will find a picture of the configs I believe possible, and would very much appreciate any advice y'all can give. Best security model(s), etc.

TIA,

ßÄMÄ

Hi BÄMÄ

1) What oprating system(s) are, or are proposed to be installed on PC1 & PC2?

2) What evidence do you have that firewall redundancy is not overkill?

Hi Dr. Z,

PC1 is dual boot 98/2K and PC2 is 98.

You're right about the redundancy, but there are always security holes. I believe that my software FW was circumvented about 2 months ago, so I figure the more the merrier.

Do you have a preference of the proposed designs? One that makes more sense to you than the others?

TIA

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I got involved in reading "Positively 4th Street" by David Hajdu. Very good book.

The network models gif can no longer be found at the site you posted above, but I have a photographic memory.

Since I'm a glutton for complexity, the second from the bottom is my preference.

I pulled the page once I was done setting it up. I chose the same one you did.

Thx again.

I have to say that routers are pretty cool. I've tinkered (and I use that term loosely) with them before, but I really enjoy this stuff. The only problem is the manual is a 244 page PDF file. Guess I'll be reading a lot too. LOL
