gentelmen ,,, I forget the administrator password for NT 4.0 backup server while i was traying to change the domain name , After restared the server not accepting the admin password. so can anyone tell me what i can do ????
I put a password in during set up and it did not work when I re booted. When I reinstalled it, I left the password fields blank and just entered throught that part. Of course I am working setting up a network at home (for my MCSE classes) and security is not a major issue to me. Good Luck!
Try using a password cracking utility like L0phat. Login with a user account and try to crack the admin password. Here is another thing that should work. It's a security hole in NT. Rename the "logon.scr" to "logon.bak", then find "usrmgr.exe" and rename it to "logon.scr"... wait for the screen saver to start, and it will start Usermanager with admin rights. Then you can enter and reset the admin password. If you have the Emergency Repair disk, you can hack the password out as well. hope this helps.

As a last resort, reinstall NT Server without deleting the existing installation, it will go through a full setup including password reset. Just type in a new password when it asks to set up Administrator account. It will still keep all of your previous settings other than that.

Nehru, if you cannot figure this one out, perhaps you should stick to windows 98.
