Where can I find an installation program that will install the Administrative Tools on a WinNT workstation. I am looking in particular for the Policy Editor. I recently became responsible for maintaining 30 or so workstations that have WinNT 4.0 with service pack 6.a In over half of them the policy editor is not listed and poledit.exe is not on the hard drive. I can copy the files thru the network but am looking for a simpler solution, ie, an install program. I formatted one of the workstations and re-installed thinking that maybe it was an option that was overlooked and did not find it. Only 9 of the machines actually link back to and are administered by a server. The others are all standalone workstations.

I'm not entirely clear as to what you want to accomplish, but I think you mean you want to administer the network from a client Workstation.

If that's right, you can use the Windows Resource Kit for IT Professionals Supplement 4:

"To install the Windows NT Server Administrative Tools on a computer running Windows NT Workstation, the Setup.bat file must be run from \Clients\srvtools\winnt directory at the command prompt. Setup.bat is located on the Windows NT Server compact disc in the \Clients\srvtools\winnt folder. "

You can also do this by going to add/remove programs, have disk, then point to Clients/Svrtools/Svrtools.inf

Thanks for the input. Just trying to get the administrative tools on all of the workstations the same. The machines are used for public access in library locations and we use the policy editor to control available options to them. I do not have a copy of WinNT server. Our NT server was a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and did not come with a software package. The only software I have is the NT workstation cd and from your comments I now know why I couldn't find the tools on it...they just aren't there. My predecessor must have had access to a server cd or cloned one of the Gates PC's. Thanks again.
