Hello friends,
recently i added a win2k pro to an existing windows nt domain. I could easily log on to the domain and all the domain members(pdc too) except the bdc could be contacted. The other nt workstations in the domain can access this system and the bdc. Also I can't access the network directory as it is situated in the bdc

One important thing i noticed is that the win2k pro and the bdc also havn't communicated before i am adding this system to the domain. The domain and the system were in the same work group.
So may i please know

1. What would be the problem in communicating with bdc and w2k pro(whether they may be in a domain or in a simple lan)
2. Is it possible for a w2k pro workstation to access the network directory in the same windows nt domain
please help me. thanks

Any permanent solution plss.

I have about 50 win 2K pro WS's in a NT domain. Not a problem.
I assume you can ping the BDC from the WS's and you are only running IP.
Look at your WINS registrations. Do you have multiple NICs in the BDC. Do you have multiple Wins servers. Do you have DHCP set the netbios parameters?
Are they (WS and BCD) on the same subnet? If the netbios is set to broadcast then this would be a problem.

Just have to start chasing it down and I don't know enough about your domain. I would play with an LMHOST file and NBTSTAT on the Work Stations to see if it's a netbios problem, which is what it sounds like.

Hope this helps.
