I am attempting to add a new computer to our domain. I have added the computer via the server manager on the PDC and the computer has the correct network ID. However i have 2 issues

1) When i log into the w/s it says "your machine does not appear to have an account on the PDC" (or words to that effect), and
2) When i look at the domain via the server manager on the PDC and click on the new computer it says "network path could not be found"

Any ideas?

hi,

you have to add the computer account directly from the computer itself.
by using the control panel - network and then create a computer account in that domain. i had the same troubles sometimes, but when I did it not from Servermanager but from the computer itself, it worked without any problems.

The only problem is when i try and add it via the computer itself the option to "add account to the domain" is not available.

Without this being available then how do it do it ?

in control panel - services... normally you should get anyhow a message: "at least one service could not be started" if you reboot the server.

Are you saying the "Add the computer account to the Domain" is grayed out? Yes. It's supposed to be. You have to click on the Domain option, type in the Domain name, and then you'll have the option to add the account to the Domain. Then using a DA account, add the machine account to the Domain.

If that doesn't work, change it back to Workgroup, reboot, THEN add it to the Domain.

Strange,

The w/s is set up correctly and the domain is correct yet when i try to log into the network it says

The systems computer acount is not in it's primary domain controller. That is very strange. If i log into the actual w/s then i can see the other machines on the n/w but obviously not get into them as i have not been authenticated.

During the installation of the NIC it asked me if i wanted to use DCHP to get an IP address, i said yes.
If anyone can help me then please contact me via msn_messenger (scots_gary@hotmail.com)

Thanks Guys

Have you configured DHCP for this machine?
