Hey i probably doing something stupid don't laugh just help thanks :) any tips would be great.

NT Server Pentium 233 128MB ram 8 gig hard drive 100mbps lan
Windows 98SE Pentium 500 128MB ram 8 gig hard drive 100mbps lan

Befor the 98SE had nt workstation. But the in the network the only computer visible was the server. On both computers.

Now i put 98SE and i couldn't get it to logon to network.
Here are the specs of the network
DOMAIN:HOME_WORLD
DOMAIN CONTROLLER:MOTHER_SHIP (nt server of course)
WIN98SE:BLADE
The NT server has ip address of 192.168.0.1
The 98SE has ip addressof 192.168.0.2
subnet mask (on both machines): 255.255.255.248
Gateway(on both) 223.223.223.233
DNS Search Order(on both) 192.168.0.1
Wins Address(on both) 192.168.0.1

On Windows Nt Server TCP/IP:
Enable DNS for Windows Resolution Checked
Enable LMHOSTS Lookup Checked

Services Running on NT server:
Computer Browser
Microsoft DNS Server
Microsoft TCP/IP Printing
NetBIOS Interface
REMOTE ACCESS SERVICE
RPC Configuration
Server
Simple TCP/IP Services
Windows Internet Name Services
Workstation

ALSO on NT extra protocol point to point protocol.(do i need it?)

In server manager it has BLADE as a NT workstation or server
and it has MOTHER_SHIP as domain controller.

Now i can't seem to add a 95 or 98 client am i missing something there? Probably but what?

98 SE MACHINE
Network properties
Client for microsoft networking (Logon to NT network checked and domain entered)
File and print sharing for microsoft networks
TCP/IP binded to dial up networking and the NIC
all tcp/ip properties entered same.

That is it it can't recognize either machine on the network. Except the server can see itself.

And help, tips, and "hey that is not the best way to do it" would be great.

Thanks

P.S. I won't run the nt for long there are just some file i want to get off it. I was learning ASP on IIS so now i am going to trash it after i get the files off of it and put on LINUX and apache web server

You are using a subnetted class C IP address with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.248 . With this mask the subnetwork address is
192.168.0.8, the usable host IP addresses are 192.168.0.9 - 192.168.0.14, the broadcast address is 192.168.0.15 and the next subnetwork address is 192.168.0.16, try reassigning your IP addresses to usable ones...

I used 192.168.0.9 and 192.168.0.10
Maybe that isn't what i was suppose to do?
I changed the ip address and it still won't work.

your gateway should be 0.0.0.0
your subnet mask should be 255.255.0.0 (class b)
though I recommend to all my clients to use 10.x.x.x with a subnet of 255.0.0.0
if you do the 10.0.0.0 tule.. keep to these basic rules

servers or machines with perminate connections or you want to keep thier ips get 10.0.0.x
mobile should be 10.0.1.x
dialup or remote should be 10.0.2.x

and a completly different network (done via routing) should be 10.1.x.x ect...

do you see what I mean?
that just makes it easier when setting up dhcp rules :)

and you can set that up to work from dhcp on your nt server

thats it.

ALWAYS ROUTE (default gateway) to 0.0.0.0

linux does this by defualt.. but NT doesn't

You also might try removing the wins address from the server this can cause conflicts with netbios name resolution. To Check if this is the case, at the command prompt on the server type nbtstat -n and see if any conflicts show up.

Always check your metwork card before
trying higher up( so start bottom up:
ping 127.0.0.1 => is your NIC oke
the ping other adres, oke than check
your subnet etc good luck
