Comment: I get this message at bootup. " The 3Com 3C59x Bus Master Adapter Driver service failed to start due to the following error: A device attached to the system is not functioning. " How do you correct this error message? What is wrong?

Reply: (edit)Well, I have about 10 servers running with that card and for the last year never seen anything wrong with em in NT4, so the thing that comes to mind is a hardware failure.

Reply: (edit)I have used that NIC in at least 3 dozen machines and have also seen that message in one and only one computer. It is also an NT 4.0 computer. However, I have other NT4's with no such message. Have used all the latest drivers, have searched the Microsoft KB, can't get rid of the message. Yet the NIC works fine! I'm all ears, too.

Reply: (edit)If you loaded the networking part of NT after the setup portion, it will cause this. The solution is to just reload your service pack. Ie., SP3 or above. There are two or three errors that are caused by loading the NIC software after the NT installation.

Reply: (edit)Go into Control Panel and disable the 3COM bus master. Make sure it is disabled for startup. Its a known fact. Check out 3COM's Web Site.
