I had win NT and put win 98 se on my computer, all is working well but now my colors are messed up. How do I get my 256 color back? I only have black & white and 16 color. Please Help once again. Step by Step instructions would be great.

You haven't got the correct drivers for the Video controller installed and Win98 has assumed standard VGA. What you need to do is find out exactly what video controller you have. You'll need to open the system up and take a look at the card to see what make and see if you can find any identifying codes and then search on the Internet for drivers. Other than that, if the PC is as was originally sold e.g. a Compaq or Dell for example you should be able to get the relevant drivers from the maker's website.

If youve got win98 now it should mean you've got msd.exe somewhere (microsoft diagnostics). Do a search as to which directory it's in, change to a dos prompt (i'd suggest rebooting to dos, but a dos window will work), make the directory msd is in current, and run it. it's usually pretty good at letting you know what kind of video card youve got(especially if it's a vesa card, which is where a lot of problems arise) Make sure you copy all the info presented....
