OK Nic 1 is connected to a corporate router that we do not have access to. This Nic controlls internet access and other network applications in our buisness..

Problem is this router blocks ports that are needed for our email.

We have installed another Nic (Nic2) in the computer to a different insternet connection. However we connot get it to recieve any type of ip. But if we disconnect the wires for the Nic1 and reboot ten it will pull up a connection.

How can I get NIC2 to get a connection so we can use it to run the email client?

Your security admin is going to be pissed !

What you are doing is opening a door that was blocked into your network.

Anytime you configure nics or network functions reapply your service pack. You should be able to get both cards live.

The support desk told us to install a second network card leading to a different internet connection.

But. they would not support it nor would they help us set it up to work with the orginal card. All they will do is make sure the orginal card is connecting to the nortel networks router and server..

I did try this.. I took off the Cat5 running on the Orginal NIC and ran it to the new Nic running to the unsecured internet.. and it pull an IP sddress like we wanted to. I then connected the new line to the new NIC and it does the same. When I add the orginal NIC to the equastion nothing work. I reboot and the Orginal NIC takes over and the new nic wont get an IP.

What now?

Good to know your support desk is the one whos head will roll.

Did it get the same ip address on each nic? Or were they different addresses? I am assuming you are plugging into the same switch with both cards, correct?

Did you reapply your NT service pack? Please do so before going any farther.

Any errors in event viewer concerning the nic and bootup? Try moving the new nic to a different pci slot.

So each nic works individually but not together. If you do a ipconfig what are the listed stats on the cards?

Do you only have one dhcp server for both the secure and unsecure nets?
