We have a number of NT machines that came preconfigured with 2 gig c:\drives. We have a lot of software that automatically installs or is required to install onto the C:\ drive.
After a period of time our C:\ drives are full. I am preparing to rebuild an NT machine but it is requiring me to put it on a max 2 gig c:\ drive,
Is there any way around this 2 gig C:\ drive limitaion, I would like to use 7 or 8 gig c:\ drive.

See various posts on this forum.
One way would be to put drive concerned into another NT machine (running SP4 or higher) and then creating a (system) partition of the size you want. Put drive back in its own machine and install NT - should be happy with the partition there. You could also use the updated atapi.sys approach detailed here http://www.htl-steyr.ac.at/~morg/drivers/NT_Atapi/ so NT install can recognise disks > 8GB if that's a possible issue.

Be warned that there is a well documented bios limitation/ntfs bug that if you exceed 7.8gig for system/boot you can end up with a nonbooting system.
Two solutions: One is don't exceed 7.8gig. My favorite is the 2nd which is create and format as bootable a small 125 meg primary active partition. Then create a second primary or extended partitiion as large as you want. Preformat this large partition with another installation of NT. Do your Nt installation as normal. The small fat traps the boot files so they can not be moved beyond the 7.8gig limit. This method also allows you to create partitions much larger then what NT out of the box can do [4gig max]
