Firstly, I believe you're referring to the file extension .zip. If you are, you need to install a Zip/Unzip program. I prefer Winzip, but there are others available. PKZip and SimplyZip are two that come to mind.

ME has what's called Compressed Folders. You can create a compressed folder by going to File, New, Compressed Folder. Then you just drag the files you want to that folder.

Like I said, I prefer Winzip. :)

Add/Remove Programs > Windows Setup tab > system tools > details > checkmark in "compressed folders" > apply/okay > reboot. You should now be able to open zip files.

If you plan to add a thrid party zip/unzip program, reverse the above process first.

Hello jcook2417,

First, what do you mean by "my computer won't open up folder that are .zip".

When you try to double-click them? When you right-click them, and chose "Open"? When you right-click them, and chose "Explore"? When you right-click them, and chose "Extract All..."? Ect.-ect.

Try something, will you please. Go to, open a folder that a *.zip is in. Then add \ and the name of the compressed folder in the address. Then click "Go" Do you see the contents, of the compressed folder??

Or, you could try this ;-) Start, Run, and type this;
rundll32.exe zipfldr.dll,RouteTheCall
Then leave/put a space after that. Then type the complete address to, and including the name of the compressed folder. Now press Enter.

What happens when you do these things??

Might, might need to make some changes in the registry and/or file... For a later discussion ;-)

Good Luck,
CrazyOne

In Widows Me help this is exactly what it says when looking in the index under extracting a file/folder>
> To extract files or folders from a compressed folder

On the desktop, double-click My Computer, and then locate the compressed folder.
Do one of the following:
To extract a single file or folder, drag the file or folder from the compressed folder to a new location.
To extract all files or folders, right-click the compressed folder, and then click Extract All. In the Extract wizard, specify where you want the files extracted to. <
I found that if I browse my way to the compressed folder ,using Windows Explorer ,you can look inside each.zip folder and see what it contains .You must make sure in folder options you have the check mark in show hidden folders and files!By default this option is not checked ,to prevent newbies from deleting improtant system files !
Good Luck Nick

Have a question about zip folder from Win XP.

Somebody knows if there is a way to create a zip folder and compress files (or decompress files) with a command line. Or, is there a way to use these fonctionality in Visual Basic.

Thank you

If I can learn the estimate packadge size before compressing large folder? If I know I will not save any space then I will not spend my time for zipping! How can I do it?
