Anyone have any ideas on why this error is occurring? "your program caused a divide overflow error. If the problem presistes contact your program vender." I am running a p11 350 mhz win me 300+ rm ... This error occurs on boot up sometimes not all the time... sometimes starting in safe mode then restarting will allow the pc to finish the boot cycle.. I found advice else where suggesting that I needed to check the time in the bios that check out fine. I really dont want to reformat so any ideas on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

when did the problem started?... can you use system restore to go back to the time everything was fine?...
b.t.w... judging from PII 350 your computer might be just too weak and old to run windows ME (dont get me wrong, it will run perfectly with winodw 98 for many years from now)
what are your free system resources at start?
did you check ALL your hardware and ALL your software for windows ME compatibility before you upgraded?
did you turn off your AV program while you upgraded to ME?
are you turning it off while you are installing your programs?
You have to be very very picky with the hardware and software when using windows ME

Generally that error points to a program or driver loading at startup is attempting to divide by zero... but that is not possible, so you get the error.

Unfortunately, it can also point to the processor receiving bad information from the motherboard or RAM and trying to divide by zero also. If this is the case, you have a hardware problem of some sort... motherboard, RAM... it could be a few things.

Try testing the software/drivers that are loading upon bootup first.
Go to start>>run>>msconfig.
Choose selective startup.
Take the checkmark out of everything underneath.
Click apply>>ok and reboot when prompted.

It will be ugly when you get up because you are not processing your video card driver. But try a few reboots this way... until you are satisfied that you are not going to get the error.

If you do get the error this way. It is a driver or a piece of software loading upon bootup that is causing the error.
You can use msconfig and some linear troubleshooting to figure it out.

If you go back to msconfig and check up system.ini or win.ini, then receive the error... it is most likely a driver issue. Make sure all of your drivers are up to date. Reinstall them to be sure they are not corrupted.

If you check anything else under selective startup, you are most likely looking at a software issue.

If you still get the error in a totally clean boot situation, with nothing checked under Selective startup, you may be looking at a hardware issue.

If this recently started... try System Restore. It may save you a lot of headaches.

Win Me was not an upgrade in was a clean install and yes the av was turned off the restore process has not worked I am not sure exaxtly when the problem started. I understand that Me can be picky we have other systems in the house that have a very close setup and do not experience the same problem. Have you seen this error before and if so what did you do to fix it.

thank you
