xp will not install on my new HD

im having problems with xp i had it in stalled on my old hard drive which was 5 gb my new one a 40 gb will not run it i install it and when it starts for the frist time it says that it has stopped run because it may cause damage to hard drive and it won't even start up in safe mode do any of you know how to fix this proble if so like me know

Have you checked the hard drive manufacturer's website for any issues related to XP?
That should be your first step.

After checking the Manf web site,make sure you are using the correct procedure to set up the drive to accept XP. XP uses a different file system then all other Win OS'S

May I suggest upgrading your BIOS or use the BIOS utility that came with your 40GB HDD.
