When trying to download critical updates from Microsoft for Win ME, it seems to download ok but fails on the install. The error message reads: WScript Error-Windows Scripting Host, that's on the top of the window, then in the window it says: Loading script "C:\Nologo" Failed. I have tried all the solutions that Microsoft suggests in their download updates solutions, still no luck. Also made sure all of my internet options are set to default. Went into msconfig and tried unchecking things in there. Still no luck.I am using Norton Antivirus 2001, which I even disabled to see if the download would succeed. I also went to housecall and ran an online virus check, just to be sure. Came out clean. Can anyone help me out with this? I have a 10 G hardrive, lots of room, and plenty of ram. I can download anything else except this critical update from Microsoft. Thanks. :(

Not at all sure about what is causing the error. However, it may help to download/install
the MS scripting engine(s) to see if that corrects the problem (and it shouldn't hurt
).
If that doesn't do it try second link for more info.

Since you are running Norton... You do not by chance have "Script blocking" turned on do you?

You can take a look in start>>run>>msconfig>>startup tab for script blocking... but I've found it necessary to disable it directly through norton in order to get it to actually turn off.

Other than that... you can download a new Windows scripting host:

Microsoft Windows Script 5.6

But I would really check your Norton Settings first. Appearently, they install Script blocking when you run LiveUpdate. See this site at Symantec for more information:

How to disable or remove the Windows Scripting Host

I first went to the Symantec sight and manually downloaded the above suggested files, that didn't work. I also disabled the script blocking in Norton and in msconfig, it still wouldn't work. Then, I downloaded the updated Windows Script File, 5.6..........AND IT WORKED!!!!!! I couldn't believe it!! I'm still in shock!! I can't tell you both how much I appreciate your help with this!! I've been trying for two weeks!!! I'd tried everything before this!! I was running out of ideas...and I think my close friends were running out of patience! :) We all thank you....and we'll all sleep better tonight. Who would have thought it would be something as simple as that. Once again, thanks a million Smitty, Newgrl, and to you, the webmaster of Computing.net.

I know how you feel, holy cow. I had the same C:Nologo error. When I installed the new Windows Script 5.6 it solved my problem. Thank you everyone for helping people like me in these fourms. :)

I don't know how you guys do it but you are GENIUSES! All my problems in the world have been solved by downloading Windows Script File, 5.6. If they could perfect the technology I'd email each of you a bit of my easter egg! Many, many thanks.
