I'm using Win ME. I get these error messages every time I start up the computer and I just hang up. Explore has caused an error in WS2_32.dll Expore will now close. if you continue experience the problem, try restart your computer. Then, the same thing happen to Fqdp, Cmesys, Ssdpsrv, Gmt,... with the same sets of error messages. It shows the screen before it get to my wallpaper, it let the mouse to move around but it doesn't let me open any application. whenever I try to double click on any application, the whole computer just hang up. The thing is all the error messages have something to do with WS2_32.dll and kernell32.dll Please help me !!!! After I connect my CD_ROM properly, the computer recognized it and everything worked fine. Then I ran a Disk Defrag. I worked and finished the job. And all of these problem start to occur the very next time I start the computer. So now, I can only use my computer in Safe Mode, which doesn't take my CD-Rom in.
I had similar problems until I ran a virus scan and found that I had been infected with one of the KLEZ viruses. This should be easy to detect and remove. After I ran the fix provided by Symantec, everything on my computer was back to normal. (This will probably involve doing a "restore disk", but that's not hard and you can find lots of how-to information on the internet). Just go to www.symantec.com , click on "security response" at the top of the page. On the next page, scroll down (almost to the bottom), and on the right side of the page you'll see a big button that says "Check for Security Risks". This will run a free virus scan on your computer. If you have something, it will tell you which worm or virus you have, and will then tell you what to do to fix it (and they offer free "fixes" to download, which I suggest saving to your hardrive and running from there, as opposed to downloading to a floppy disk. Even though it says either will work, only saving to the hard drive worked for me.) I hope this helps :-)
I'm also having this problem, i'll post a list of errors as I get them.
It only happens when online, It is appears completly random, I have not added and new hardware, It started about a week ago.
I was so annoyed I did a full re-format and install of my system limiting it to only required drivers etc, to try and see if it would trace back to a new program.
aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh it's started again, but it did wait untill I had re-imported my email messages, any connection?
Top tip about the free symantec scan, thanks. But it didn't find anything.
WS2_32.dll is part of Winsock which has something to do with Dial up Networking. I suggest you look and see if you can find a winsock update for Windows ME.
