Just wondering as I have never done this before, would deleting the windows cab files that are stored automatically by ME on the hard drive naff the machine up or would it just ask for the cd all the time? I was just wondering as if it works just by asking for the cd why bother having the cab files stored on the drive when it takes up space. (Ok not much sace but space none the less). I normally would just leave them there but am tempetted to see what wil happen without them and how much space is saved.

You are better off with them on the hard drive - in case of problems, the CD is not normally accessible from Safe Mode - it'd have to be a pretty sorry system if you can't spare the space.

As well, it's certainly more convenient to have them always on hand

2.1 gig laptop which I need all the space for other things. The system works fine as is and as long as my brother doesn't mess around with it, I don't think I'll have any probs.

Boy, never heard that before

Stuck in Safe Mode without CD support can present varying degrees of inconvenience, depending on how handy you are with DOS.

May be less of a need on a laptop, as you're not likely to be changing much in the way of hardware (which often demands the CD), but it certainly can make life easier having the CABs there on the drive

I can agree with that however if push does come to shove I can connect my hard drive to another machine with my mobile hd case.

If space is the issue,

Download Delindex 5.1 and try it.
