Windows me wont reckognize my MP3 player or my PSP, I tried to upgrade from the 1.1 ports to the 2.0 using the pci card slot. That didnt help. When i plug in the psp it will reckognize the mass storage device but then tell me that the driver is not working I get the NTKERN(.VXD) error, but i think that is for my 1.1 driver because the 2.0 ports came with there own driver disk yet it will still ask me insert the windows CD, which i have but when i put it in it can't find the file either. The files it is missing is USBSTOR and USBSYS. I appreciate any help on getting the computer to reckognize devices
adampsp, SWAG, suspect you have nothing more severe than a driver problem. FYI, USB 1.0, 1.1,& 2.0 are different critters and each needs it's own driver. 2.0 is considerably faster than the others. HTH. Ed in Texas.
FWIW, the USBSTOR.INF file can be extracted from the PRECOPY1.CAB folder on the WinME CD, though you might also have the WinME .CAB folders on your harddrive. The USBSTOR.SYS file can be extracted from the BASE2.CAB folder, but I'm not aware of any file named "USBSYS"...
Check here for more information about the location of those files on the WinME CD-ROM:

This link will explain how to extract those files from the CD:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q265371
Follow the instructions to extract the two USBSTOR.* files; USBSTOR.SYS should be copied to the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers folder, while USBSTOR.INF should be copied to the C:\Windows\Inf folder. Once you reboot the system from Safe Mode, you can try to use the USB devices again. If you see any more error messages, copy them EXACTLY, then post them here, so we can try to help you resolve this.
