Yesterday, when I turned on my computer, I saw windows media player's icon overlapping my other icons in the desktop. I believe the icon that overlapping my other icons is actually a windows media player file icon. The only icons not affected by this are: my
computer, my networking place and recycle bin. The icons within "start" is also fine. It is also effecting my icons within the folders. However, all the programs I have seem to be running normally since I
have no problem running them at all. I did a virus scan on my computer
and no virus is detected.

Well,I give you what I believe to be the easiest/4 ways to fix your problem;
1) Reboot/Boot to Safe Mode,then reboot to Normal Mode.
2) Do a search of your HDD,for the "shelliconcache" file.When found,delete it,and reboot.Windows will rebuild/recreate the file.It is a "hidden" file,however,and "show hidden files and folders" must be ticked under Control Panel/Folder Options/View tab.
3) Change your Display Properties/Color Quality,then change them back.
4) If you have TweakUI,use the Rebuild Icons feature.
If any of those work,which I suspect they will...this link may interest you;
