I have Dell 8100 Desktop with a cable modem through Cox. I hooked up a NETGEAR WGR614 as a wireless router. I went through the setup wizard, but I was unable to connect to the internet. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need a special ethernet card in my desktop or do all ethernet cards support the router? I wouldn't think I would have to use a wirless adapter if I am going to use a ethernet cable to connect my desktop. Am I thinkg wrong? Any suggeestions are greatly appreciated.

No you don't need a special card to connect up to the router , just a plain $15 ethernet nic card will do the trick . The wireless router also accepts wired connection for just what you are doing . I would check to make sure the connection is working ok , by pass the router and plug into the back of the cox modem and see if you can connect to the internet , if not then you have a carrier problem and you would have to call them .

Have you reset the modem, ie, after connecting everything up, with all software installed, you need to turn off power to teh modem and router, for about one minute, unplug hte cable from the modem to router. Turn power on to modem, wait for it to set itself, generally a couple of minutes, turn power on to router, and connect the ethernet cable from modem to router. If you ever have a power cut etc, you'll need to follow this as well. Graham
