Hello. I have just set up an ad-hoc wireless network between two PCs in my house. One running Windows Millenium and using a CNet Wireless-B USB Dongle and the other running Windows 98 and using a CNet 11Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter.

The software is all installed and I have set up Network Neighbourhood to allow both internet and file sharing but for some reason things aren't working as I would expect.

The Windows 98 machine is able to find the Windows ME machine and make a connection (although it is unable to access the internet or any files on the Windows 98 machine). The Windows ME machine seems unable to detect the Windows 98 machine at all which I find odd since the Windows 98 machine claims to connect to the ME machine.

I have read through the manuals but have failed to find an explanation for this other than the fact that I have an extreme lack of expertise and have probably forgot some simple setting I have to change on one of the machine.

Please help me if possible.

Thank You

David

Are your two comuputers in the same workgroup? Very important.

Is the 98 box using 802.11B or G or A?

Are you trying to share your internet connection? What type of connection are you using? DSL, Cable, or Dailup.

Update:

It now appears that they can both 'see' each other and appear to establish an adhoc network connection.

However it is still impossible for me to access any files via Network Nieghborhood or to access the internet connection from the client machine.

I am having the same trouble. They were seeing each other fine but I did a clean install of Win 98 se (had 95) and now the ME computer cannot see the 98 computer. The 98 can see the ME, though!

Unfortunately, the new printer we got is connected to the 98 computer as it is a desktop.

So, now I cannot print from my laptop unless I access the file from the desktop computer side.

All other internet connections work fine. I have enabled file and print sharing but when I right-click on the printer, or any files, there is no option to "share" like there was in Win 95.

Please help!!!

Thanks,

Tracy
