Hi all wondered if you guys ever used winmx a file sharing program and have problems downloading MP3s,etc. Whenever i select a file, it takes AGES to get connected and start download. Out of 11 files i selected only about 2 will start downloading....it's pretty unreliable no?

hi. winmx is fine. they are working on a beta version, 3.0. it is currently available for download. you won't get as many search results until the final release. however, with the beta you can download from multiple sources at once, both from those who have the full file and from those in the process of downloading those files.
with the current version, 2.6, you want to look for those with available download slots or who don't have many people queued, waiting to download. look for the dsl, cable, t1, and t3 connection types. you'll get the best d/l speeds from these. to avoid getting a partial file look for a common file size or playing time. if downloading an mp3, pay attention to the bit rate. 128 kbps will give you good sound quality. anything higher will be even better quality but will be a larger file size, and take longer to download.
This is the link to WinMX.

does it ever say "busy queuable"? maybe you already know about this. you right-click on it and choose "enter remote queue". then a number will usuaully pop up saying what position you have on queue.

you may have to adjust your firewall settings if your using one. click on "settings", then "firewall/network settings". click the button that says "unable to except incoming connections...", then "ok". it says underneath it "...using this option will limit the number of users you can download from or upload to". i haven't found this to be an issue, or even noticeable. i still get tons of search results(unless i'm looking for a relatively obscure file), and i don't have any trouble uploading/downloading to/from anyone. from what i've seen trouble uploading/downloading has more to do with the server i'm on.
if you have a firewall, like zonealarm, make sure winmx has internet and server access checked. if access is blocked you will see red x's beside "local" and "internet". click in the left-most slot and you will see a green check mark indicating access is allowed. other firewalls should have similar options.
i have windows me and xp pro. i only had to change firewall settings when i started using xp which has a built in firewall.
i don't know if any of this will help, but good luck.

by the way, if you want to add a list of additional servers to winmx try using the program NapMX.
