Hello, I have been getting a strange error message when trying to play games on my pc. I have posted my problem in another forum, so what I'm going to do is cut and paste it below. In my problem below, the references to SDOE and IL2 are abbreviations for games.

Hi, This is a rather lengthy problem but I would appreciate it if you all would read it and try and help me out. Thanks
Over the last few days I have lost both of my SDOE installs completly. Now the game will not even work correctly when I do I full reinstall . Let me tell you the chain of events leading to this problem.

First off I'm running WinMe. Earlier this week I installed IL2 with DirectX 8. SDOE was still working perfectly for two days after I installed IL2 and DirectX. Then 2 days ago, I installed a slot of 256 RAM by PNY. This brings my total RAM to 512. Everything was still working fine, SDOE, IL2 and my other games.

That night I ran ScanDisk. When I woke up I restarted my PC to find out that SDOE was not working. The game would load fine. Then the second the mission starts the game would freeze, this happened in both of my SDOE installs. So I deleted both of my SDOE installs completely, the folders and all so there was nothing left. I even used McAfee Quick clean that Sparks reccomended to me, as to get rid of every piece of the SDOE files.

Then I reinstalled the stock SDOE game from the original disk. I went to go fly a mission, it loaded, then as soon as the game started it froze, causing me to reboot. This happened many times, sometimes, I even got this for an error message after SDOE froze:

VMM (01) + 000132CA
Error:0D :0028 :00142CA

I uninstalled and reinstalled SDOE several times with the same result. Not only has this problem affected SDOE but I have lost Halflife and Links 2001. But IL2 and CeaserIII still work fine, so do my other programs???

I'm thinking ScanDisk maybe fixed something it wasn't supposed to, none of these problems happened untill I ran ScanDisk. I have also reinstalled my GeForce Drivers because I thought that might be the prob.

So could it be my new RAM causing the problem maybe, I hear WinMe doesn't handle large amounts of RAM well. Or do I need to reinstall WinMe possibly? I hope this isn't a format the whole hard drive kind of Problem.

Thanks for reading this lengthy problem. I would greatly appreciate any info or help. I'm very upset that I can no longer play my favorite Sim

Additional Notes: My computer has been making a wierd grinding noise at start up, and I believe the noise is caused by one of my fans malfunctioning. The fan sounds normal after 5 to 10 minutes. Not sure is this might be one of the probs.

I have tried to reinstall WinMe, but my reinstallation attempts do not even get started. The Autorun feature was disabled on my CD ROM drive. I have reenabled it, but it still will not read the disk in the drive automatically. This is a problem because my Gateway PC did not come with the original WinMe Disk, but rather a reinstall disk made by gateway. You cannot reinstall WinMe without the Autorun feature enabled, because the PC needs to reboot with the disk in the drive and the Autorun cannot read it. So nothing happens??

Please ask me if you need more info on the errors or events leading to this problem. Thank you for your time.

-Travis

Hi Travis,
A while back I had the same problem ,someone suggested that I changed the AGP apeture settings in the BIOS to 8mg.
There seems to be a memory addressing problem in some nvidia cards.Give it a try and tell me if it works.
Best of luck

Well I was able to solve the problem. I guess after all it was the RAM that was causing the problem. I took it out and my game were working fine again. I'm not so sure that it was bad RAM, but I think that WinMe maybe didn't know what to do with that much RAM. I have heard Me can't handle to much memory. It was strange because other programs worked fine I just lost Half Life, Links and SDOE, so I didn't think the RAM was causing it. Well I might bring the Ram back and get another slot of 256 and see if it was bad RAM or WinMe causing the trouble.
Thanks to all of you for trying to help me out, I much appreciate it.

The suggestion of rays should work as the problem u have is that a disliked ammount of memory is being used.
If you look in your bios on startup find the graphics aparture size and change it to lomething like 8 or 16
This should solve the problem.
Also i just found this page for you
