I installed a USB external hard drive. When it was installing the drives it said a file was missing so I went to cabs and it finish installing. When I shut down and restarted the computer it just sat idle on start up window.
I tried to start in safe mode but an error message said The following file is missing or corrupted: C:\WINDOS\SYSTEM\VMM 32.VXD
Type the name of the windows loader e.g.,C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VMM 32.VXD. Can someone please help me with this probem?

If Vmm32.vxd file can be found, note the folder in which it is located. Using Notepad, edit Autoexec.bat file and add or modify the PATH line so that it includes the C\Windows\System folder. For example, add following line to your Autoexec.bat file: path=c:\windows\system
If vmm32.vxd cannot be found, or is damaged, you must reinstall Windows (the file is created when windows is installed. It cannot be copied from any source.)

Thanks for the help. Since I'm going to lose everything on that drive do you think I can put it in a different computer as slave and copy saved downloads, then put back and reinstall windows. Thanks

You don't have to wipe out your WHOLE HD. Just reinstall ME as a Safe Recovery and when asked to save system files, hit no. You should still have your programs installed. I had a vmm32.vxd just last night and did the things above and everything was still there. Good Luck!
