Every time I start my computer both my C: and D: drive open instead of starting at my desktop, it's annoying to have to close them. Anyone have any ides why or how to stop them from opening at startup? They are closed when I shut down so it's not a setting being stored that way.

Is this a new occurrence, or has it happened for a while? If it's new you could possibly use Restore and go back beyond the problem. If it's a long time occurrence, check in the System Configuration Utility (run msconfig)under the "Startup" and "Autoexec.bat" tabs for a line that calls for these drives to open (if they appear to be the last things to start, they should be near the bottom of the list). Note- before changing anything, make a backup under the "General" tab. Let us know what you find.

I don't see anything in start up that would cause them to load. Yes I am using Norton Internet Security, Is there a setting in the software causing this?
Thanks for your help & Suggestions

nope... no setting that i have found. I believe they have a patch out... but i have never been able to find it on their site.

run your LiveUpdate program and see if it fixes it.

here are a couple of links to people having the same problem:

I know this directly does not help you, but in the last week or so I have been having the same problem with the folder of my E: drive opening up at startup, I also use Norton Personal Firewall.

I have scanned my msconfig & there is nothing there to cause it, mystery!!!

I would like to know if you find a solution.

Here is the answer from Symantec, so far it seems to work on my system:

Title: 'Windows Explorer automatically opens after Norton Internet
Security 2001 2.5 installation'

Thank you Janet!

I've been digging for that for a long time.

Glad you got it fixed.
