I've noticed that WinMe doesn't shut down when I choose Start->Shutdown->Shutdown. It actually reboots. This works fine on another machine that I have, though. Does anyone else have this problem?

Hi,

In Windows ME, click Start | Run . Type MSCONFIG. Click OK. When the program comes up, click Advanced.
Make sure there is a check mark in the box next to "Disable fast shutdown."
Click OK, then OK again. Reboot the computer if you made a change.

Regards,
Sherlock

When I run MSCONFIG, there is no "Disable fast shutdown" under Advanced. Do I have a different version or something?

btw, Thanks for your reply!

Are your two computers relatively new, or is only one of them new?

check the BIOS settings, and the Power settings. They usually cause this problem.

I've seen this problem with Win Me and Norton AV 2000 OEM. It was related to the auto protect feature. I went into options on the auto protect and then to the advanced button. I then disabled "scan floppy on restart" and that cured it.
