a memory leak occurs when a program uses a certain amount of memory, but when the application is closed it does not release all of the memory allocated for that program.
example:
lets say it takes 16MB of memory to run a game. when you quit the game, in theory, you should get all of that memory back to run another application. but in actuality, the game may only release 13-14MB of that memory, keeping 2MB in case you run the game again in the same session, meaning, before you restart the computer.
this can cause problems if you run a lot of different applications in one session.

As a result of postings I now set vcache min to 1/8 of physical memory, and max to 1/4. That did as much or more than the M$ patch.
If you ask M$ for the patch you have to explain why you want it, and go through test after test and report back to them and then beg for it. Disgusting.
