hi,
i read the post at http://www.computing.net/windowsme/wwwboard/forum/11917.html and was wondering if there is a way to fix this problem.
thanks

Not yet, it just was recently discovered and admitted by microsoft I think it was the 27th, I read bugnet.com and they said they would post something as soon as the fix is out.

Belive it or not but a coworker Mr.Gamer type guy told me when he first installed windows last year on his dream machine it had some kind of memory leak happening. He told me he downloaded a Memory manager and it took care of most of the problem. I thought to myself "hes crazy" I guess he was right. I still have yet to experience this. The most i ever have running at one time is flash/photoshop/fireworks while online, obviously actualy using only one or two at a time. Maybe when the fix comes out it will get even better?:) lets hope...

same here ... i haven't really exprienced any major nor minor problems with my memory using WinMe. But i'm going to get that patch when Mircosoft releases it ... -soon hopefully-

if you are using small files and shut down your computer for the night you will not notice anything.... if using bigger files (videoediting, big picture editing...big sound files) the degradation of performance is noticable compared to windows 98

The same memory leak existed in Windows 98 ... it is nothing new. It is caused by the way that Windows Vcache works and can often be seen in the 0028 BSOD error messages.
You can lessen the effects by altering Windows default cache settings to suit your RAM configuration.

the memory leak that is in atmuni.sys
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q278/3/68.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0&qry=memory%20leak&rnk=2&src=DHCS_MSPSS_gn_SRCH&SPR=WINME
is common for the windows 98 and windows ME,
this windows ME memory leak is different and specific only for the windows ME
read these two articles
http://www.extremetech.com/article/0,3396,s%253D201%2526a%253D8748,00.asp
and
http://www.msnbc.com/news/606135.asp?0dm=C19LT&cp1=1
and as far as i am informed the memory can be freed only by rebooting and not by any memory management programs

I read the MS KB article Q278368 Miro mentioned.
Damn them! The have a fix: you need ATMUNI.SYS dated 12/8/00 11:28am (or later) size 244,560. Mine is ATMUNI.SYS dated 6/8/2000, and the size is 244,272.
BUT there is NO file availavle for download. You have to call them and pay, and MAYBE they'll waive the charge. What crap!
Anybody know where I can get the latest ATMUNI.SYS without a lot of hassle?

Has anything been resloved with this memory leak. I have the problem and have been following numerous threads since last November and find that no one seems to really have a handle on this thing. I am a power user of OUTLOOK for my business and very large databases which require lost of open files. I am somewhat convinced that a good portion of the problem lies with the way the programs address base memory (but what do I know). One thing for sure... It is NOT a function of RAM. I have tons of it and clean it up (free it up) when I start getting out of memory message and it doesnt make a bit of difference (its a 640K... base memory kind of problem). Sure Memory managers such as Mem turbo and others work fine to reclaim your RAM not released when you close a program, but the real issue is loss of BASE MEMORY (not RAM) which finally cripples your machine and requires a reboot.... It's not the RAM folks. Anyone seen a real fix for this yet?
