Yes, it is possible. What you have to do:

- Use a win98 or win2k disk to format in dos.
- After formatting, insert your win2k cd-rom.
- Restart and go to your Bios.
- Select first boot device in bios and set it to cd-rom.
- restart and the win2k cd should do the rest. it will convert your file system to ntfs from there =)

Good luck!

hello if you had a full install cd and not an up grade or recovery cd,s you can do this. but since its asking you need the 98 cd to let m.e install.because it looks like your copys an up grade from 98 to m.e

I don't think the person who gave the first response really grasped your question properly.

Usually I would say you've got a problem. Have you got a Win95 CD / Disks? This is a valid upgrade route as well. Just put the disk(s) in when it tries to verify you qualify for an upgrade. The install prog will continue as normal.

A few weeks ago, I saw a post on 'computing.net' that claimed you could use the upgrade without a full Win95/98 CD by creating an empty 'WINNT' folder on your C: drive. It sounds unlikely to me but I've never tried. Why not give it a shot and let us know if worked?
