Hi folks,
My WinME box failed to startup. I followed the "Step by Step Confirmation". It hung on "msmouse.vxd". I tried "Y" as well as "N" (Esc) without a solution.
It happened since 2 days ago but I was luck to get it started with ""Step by Step Confirmation" procedure. So I did not make any attempt to adjust it.
Now the WinME box can't start. I can only start on Safe Mode. Please advise how to fix this problem.
TIA

Hi rogerb,
Tks for your advice.
There is something very strange happened here.
I just started the PC. WinME booted straightforwards without problem. Now it is working. I don't know whether I'll be so luck on next booting as it is now.
Please advise where shall I examine to check whether there are problems remaining.
TIA.

as i said earlier i had similar prob, stalling at mouse vxd.,though I couldn't get mine to boot at all, only in safe mode..
in safe mode i went to device manager and
"disabled in this hardware profile" all as suggested in ms me start up problems article.now boot ok,but on a further boot problem reappeared. re checking DM shows one driver (a TV card) was reinstalling itself at boot. repeating stuff in DM and removing driver from windows/system folder allowed normal boot.
have to sort out driver prob when i next need to use tv card though.

Hi rogerb,
I tried several times reboot/shutdown/boot This WinME box is now seemingly working without problem. It looks extremely funny to me. I can't explain how it can be. In the past unsually if it failed to boot, after scaning the HD on Safe Mode rebooted it. Then it worked again. However last time all tricks failed to work.
I only need this WinME box to run PaperPort and send faxes occasionly, in particular scanning. My scanner is an outdate model using ISA interface card. That is the only reason I keep this box which is also an obsolete PC, AMD K-6. I'm not prepared to inject further time and cost on this box
Tks again for your advice.
