Comment:

I have seen problems similar to this, but not exactly:

1. Whenever I open a folder, nothing is visible until I click on the "Views" button. Then I can view the contents. This happens when I have the folders set to "Web style" and "Classic Style".

2. Whenever I try to open the Control Panel or the C: drive, I get the following error(s):

Internet Explorer Script Error

! An error has occurred in the script on this page.

Line: 107 (Control Panel)
411 (C:)

Char: 21 (CP)
13 (C:)

Error: Unspecified error. (CP)
'FileList.Folder.Self.Path' is null or not an object (C:)

Code: 0 (CP)
0 (C:)

URL: file://C:\WINDOWS\Web\controlp.htt (CP)
file://C:\WINDOWS\Web\sysroot.htt (C:)

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

Nothing is visible and clicking on the "Views" button doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Did this problem just start occurring? If so, you can run System Restore back to a date prior to when it started doing this. Go Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools-System Restore. I do not know "why" this problem started, but that, or a setting inside of IE might be changed to resolve the problem.

UPDATE - I installed WinME as an upgrade to Win98 SE. As soon as I rebooted into WinME, it started.

1)make one folder look like you want it to look... at the top of the browser, click on tools>>folder options... go to the view tab... click the item that says "Like current folder"

2)try this... extract new .htt files:

go to start>>run
type: regsvr32 webvw.dll
click ok

this will extract and replace these 17 files:
brfcase.htt
classic.htt
controlp.htt
default.htt
deskmovr.htt
dialup.htt
folder.htt
fsresult.htt
imgview.htt
nethood.htt
printers.htt
recycle.htt
safemode.htt
schedule.htt
standard.htt
starter.htt
sysroot.htt

This error should only be occurring when you are using the web view.

UPDATE - Thanks newgrl, BUT - it didn't work. Still having the same problems. Should I uninstall WinME and reinstall it?

you don't have to uninstall and then reinstall... just reinstall in place.

to do this:
do a clean boot from msconfg...
start>>run>>msconfig
selective startup.
uncheck all and reboot.

remove any antivirus software or firewalls before beginning.

do a search for... and rename if found... iemigrat.dll.

browse to c:\windows\options\install.
start the setup from there.
if the installer asks, do not choose to save your system files.

that will repair anything that might be broken... and by doing the clean boot, none of your background applications will affect the install. antivirus will seriously impact the install of an OS. it prevents the OS from writing to the hard drive properly.

iemigrat.dll is the migration file for any upgrades of IE. when you install ME, it installs it's own version of IE. this can conflict with any newer version you have installed at this point and cause errors. when you get back up, head to microsoft and upgrade IE(do all the updates as a matter of fact)... the one that came with ME is beta and buggy.

good luck!

Dude, I was having the same troubles! I found this on Microsoft's site. Guilty as charged and fixed it. This worked.
