HELP!!
I'm trying to get onto cable internet service. However, when installing the drivers for my new ethernet card, I get the error message "explorer has caused an error in unknown". I must restore the windows system back to pre-netcard condition for the system to start-up cleanly. This same problem occurs when I try to install the cable modem (and drivers) on the usb port. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get any credible support from any vendor. Reinstalling Windows/Me isn't really an easy option for me either(lots of bootleg software copies). Any suggestions on how I can fix this thing so I can zoom along on cable internet? Your help with be really appreciated. Bud

is your ethernet card seated properly??
what are the specifications of your card??
try removing your ethernet card and put it back again.

Which slot are you putting the NIC in.
Try a clean boot before installing the card.
To do this:Go to start>>run>>msconfig
Put a dot in Selective startup.
Take the checkmark out of everything underneath.
Click apply>>ok>>reboot when prompted.Now... shut down the computer.
Put the card in.
Boot up.
Let PnP do it's thing, install the drivers when prompted and reboot if necessary. Now, go to msconfig.
Put a check in each of the boxes... one at a time... rebooting after each checkmark. At least you could narrow down where the problem is coming from... startup group, static VxDs, System.ini file... etc. You can use msconfig to further narrow down the culprit by going to the corresponding tab and checking things one at a time. Rebooting after each change.
Once you find out what the offending entry or program is, uninstall it.
