My mother is having several problems with her computer freezing. She has tried several things with no luck. I was wondering if it was best to fix the problem with the recovery cds or should I do a complete reformat? I do have a windows xp disc that I installed on my daughters pc and I was going to install it on my mothers too. She currently has windows xp installed on her computer but only has the recovery discs not a windows xp disc.

get a can of compressed air, take the cover off the case & blow out all the dust from the inside. the can of compressed air should come with a skinny straw like attachment. use this to blow out areas where fans are located. don't use a vaccume cleaner. your problem may be due to overheating and, have nothing to do with software.

Before you go and tear open the case, what have you already tried? Did you run Disk Cleanup? Defrag? How much free space is available on the OS partition?
