I recently reformatted my dad's hd and reinstalled Windows ME. Windows recognizes the devices installed and accepts the drivers, but my dad's ISP AOHell won't recognize the modem correctly. It thinks that the modem is connected to COM2 when it's connected to COM1. How can I make it work.

I had this problem before too. Windows wouldn't recognize my modem. All I did was take out the modem and connected it to another avalible PCI slot. Since then, it worked fine.

If you have the installation disk for ME , go to start/settings/control panel/modems/hit add/when prompted to look or have disk hit have disk and put the windows me cd in, it will find it.

Make sure the modem is connected properly, and turned on before running the diagnostic test.
1. Go to the Start-menu and choose Settings and then Control Panel.
2. In the Control Panel double click on Modems.
3. Now, click on the Diagnostics-tab.
4. Select the com-port associated with the modem, and click on More Info...After a few moments, information on the communication port and on the attached modem/adapter will be shown
if nothing comes up than it just means that your modem isn't correctly installed or not working.
