dont know if this will help but try going to control panel--start,settings,control panel.
double click on passwords then click on user profiles. make sure the box is checked that says all users use the same....
if this doesn't help let me know i'll check it out some more.

i've experienced this problem and there is a solution on the microsoft website. i can't recall exactly where but the error messages that are generated do provide a link to the correct location. basically you need to extract certain files from the ME CD, and "register" them. provided you have the CD it's a simple process that takes about 3 minutes.

post back if you have problems and I'll do a bit more research.

hi sorry i took so long to get back. is your computer still under waranty? it could be.... say you have a compaq cause i dont know what you have. that you could call the 1-800 tech. suport and they would walk you through it. you do need certain updates but i wouldnt go crazy on them pick and choose installing only what you need. it can mess up your computer. wich in turn causes you to restore back to a previos time before you did the update. here is the microsoft site that the auto update takes you to

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

you can go there your self and download what you need. if that doesnt work for you, you can do a google search for the specific upgrade you'd like. example pctell micro modem update. and for security updates if you use internet exlporer the site is
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/default.asp

wish i could help you more but im working on a bios error code on my comp. thats been taking up alot of my time. i will check back and see how things are going for you though.
good luck, talk soon
penny
