Comment: After my PC has been scanned by the Windows Updatesite ,it sghows 3 criticial updates needed ,actually four ,however one is for I.E.ver6, and I want to stay with 5.5 .Well I go ahead and install the other criticial updates ,it completes ,when I check the history it shows the updates as installed sucesssfullly ,yet when I run the scan again ,the same criticial updates come up, again ,one of them a small one ,is listed in my history about five times and each time its says sucessfull under status? Any suggestions ,Thanks Nick P.S. Bel-Arc advisor does not show these updates ?

Reply: (edit)Which updates specifically are not installing properly? Are they listed in add/remove programs? If so, uninstall each and reboot, then go back to Windows Update and try to install again. IE 6 is more secure than 5.5, especially since 5.5 is no longer supported and will not be updated by Windows Update to 5.5SP2.

Reply: (edit)Some of the updates may be for IE6 or outlook 6. If so they will keep returning being that IE6 is not installed.

Reply: (edit)I think it's a big mistake sticking with IE 5.5...care to explain your reason(s) for not upgrading to IE 6?

Reply: (edit)I hung on to IE55 SP2 for ages (as it was giving me no hassle) but eventually moved to IE6 SP1 on security grounds. It was as good as gold - and that was on W98SE. Over the years I've learned to monitor computing.net forums before making IE changes. Often the first or second service pack works wonders. IE55 was a total nightmare (on W98SE anyway) but IE55 SP2 was fine. DerekW
