Through my humble experience, I can say from when older versions of Windows were released up till WinME, WinME is by far the worst Windows OS to date. Sure from Win3.1 to Win98, message boards were reporting problems but not like with this WinME crap. Please if you have not purchased it, dont waste your cash. Download it from a warez site to try out.

I upgraded to Windows Me after getting it for a Christmas present, and it works fine for me. Had to upgrade to Norton Antivirus 2001, and upgrade my Voodoo video driver to the most resent version (winme compatable). My games play smoother, my programs load a little faster, and my entire system just seems a little snappier overall. No major problems. I upgraded over Win98, and am using AOL 6.0, and only a 300mhz processor, and 64 megs ram. So far Win me is has acutually given me fewer problems than Win98.
The system file protection feature keeps programs from overwritting, or deleting important dll's and other files. I feel if you can get updated drivers for your hardware and check out Microsoft critical updates Win Me may be a good stable operating system, but on the other hand if you are using Win98, or Win98se, and are having now problems, than why ask for trouble by upgrading to a new operating system and just stick with what is working for you.

No OS yet has been immediately compatible with everything . It never will be that way either - it is a nice OS - only time will tell how good it is . When 3.x came out how much stuff was around to be compatible ? How many users compared with today ?
Computers are always changing and there is always more and more stuff to work with - it isn't an exact science .

Good answer DD. I am still running Win98SE & from reading in this forum, alot of people say it stinks, but truthfully, It has never locked up on me, so I will not upgrade to ME. Like you said, if the OS works for you why change.

mattz, sorry for annoying you, you can skip my posts, i know that i repeat myself often... i write these posts for people that did not read them yet....to warn them from potential problems... if only i would read my posts before buing this darn computer i would save myself a lots of headaches and $$$
I consider windows ME as a lemon and it should be subject to all lemon laws that are on the book.
b.t.w i fully agree with daniel, just windows ME sucks most
Sorry for spelling... and sorry for repeating myself Miro

thats allright miro, sorry also for being abusive, i honestly know how you feel when something is not working, your've got every right to be pissed off. i would be too, but i highly recommend you try and get a little support from compaq as this it what they are there for... a while ago i mentioned a company i work for.. well that is microsoft, and i guess i get a little uptight when reading bad comments about our product,
i hope you can get your problems sorted,
and wish you best for the future

regards matt.

matz, i dont mean any of my comments here personally, i am trying to aim them towards the "institutions" and towards the "system"...what makes me sad is that i feel helpless... i tried the compaq technical support, i am on the phone with them at least once a week... but those poor guys are also clueless.... they cant deal with unexpected surge of calls that they are not qualified to handle.... they were surprised by the problems like i have been... microsoft wont talk with me because they say that it is issue of waranty that should be delt by compaq.... a friend that has a week old DELL has the same problems .... DELL tech support tried to blame first AOL...the poor girl is crying every day.... these are just tid bits that make me bitter and sarcastic... and i apologize for it...
Regards Miro
