I'd like to add a Windows user/password (not via BIOS or 3rd party software) to my PC for some security. Does someone know the path/settings to achieve this ? And do they know if ESC or leaving the p/word blank bypasses the check. Thanks

Hi Martin, I'm afraid that you have few options with WinMe! The bios password is your easiest choice, offering fairly good security unless someone opens your case and resets your bios! (not likely to happen but possible!) The logon\user password is worthless as it only changes personal preferences and can be easily bypassed. You do have some third party options but I have not tried any. Lastly, you could always migrate to Win 2000 or xp which both have decent security. Good luck in your endeavors!

Hi martin. If you're willing to work in the registry you can always do this: Go to control panel and into the Users icon. Create a user profile and make sure to enter a password for it. Then open up the registry editor at start - run - type and enter regedit. Once there go to this location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Network\Logon
create a new dword entry called: MustBeValidated
and set the value to: 00000001
reboot and now users are required to enter the correct password.
-good luck
