Comment: I recently installed windows Me over win98. about 7 out of ten times when i go to shutdown I get the following message on a blue screen, Windows Protection error. System Halted. You need to restart your computer. It seems to happen after I have played games, if i restart and immediately shutdown it doesnt happen. I have Norton system works but I have disabled it and the problem still occurs. I have a P3600, 128MB RAM, 64MB Geforce 2 GTS Pro, DVD and CDR. I would greatly appreciate some help, thank you.

Reply: (edit)I had the same problem when I ran SystemWorks
and then shut down. Symantec knowledge base
has a solution. Go to the knowledge base and
look for "Windows protection errors appear
after installing Norton SystemWorks and
restarting the computer." I know this doesn't
sound exactly like the problem, but the first
fix listed fixed my problem.

Reply: (edit)Hi David.... are you using Nvidia's Detonator 3 GE Force Drivers ?
When i use them, after playing a game for a period of time (more than 10 minutes), when shutting down windows i get that message. To avoid the message i always restart the computer and after returns to windows i shut down. Or you can install the manufactor's drivers (asus, creative, etc.. depending of your manufactor's card).

that has CeQuadrat Packet Writer Software installed, you receive the following
error message:
Windows Protection Error. System Halted
