Remove all of your cards except video and see if the same error occours. If not than you have a IRQ/Driver/Compatibility issue
Add the cards in one at a time in the proper slots from the top down. Faster cards on top slower cards lower down(provided that we are talking about a tower case)(laptops/whearable are treated differently)

Hi
Mu Umax 330T notebook started doing
the same. I've tried almost everything but
now it won't even boot reliably from a
floppy. I suspect that the master boot
record of the HD is corrupted and am
going to follow up on a suggestion seen
elsewhere to use the IBM 'wipe' utility to
completely erase the HD (including MBR)
and try again. Failing that, I'll install Linux
and failing that it looks like I have a $4000
bookend!

No this is a common problem. A lot of people are having the same exact problem so it is a microshaft bug.

i know this is an old post but just incase anyone stubles across this they might find this useful. I have encountered this problem a few times. It, for me, has always related to bad or incorrect drivers. So uninstall the the drivers one by one untill the problem disappears, then find an updated driver and install.

hope this helps,

jon

I have encountered this only after playing games that use 3d a lot. If you restart your computer after playing these games then shutdown, it doesnt occur.

not much of a fix I know, but it stops scandisk running after an improper shutdown

Hi,
I notice that a lot of people are having the same problem, I did have the windows protection error come up on Windows 98 sometimes but I notice it more often on Windows Millenium. For some strange reason it only happens when the computer has been on for over twenty minutes, so I'm guessing maybe it's a program I'm running? Any help on this would be appreciated...

I just thought I might help a few people out. I hope this helps... I have had the same problem, but only when trying to shut down. I have had the problem when I had windows 98 but now it's become more regular when upgrading to Windows ME. The windows protection error is caused apparently by the nvidia video drivers. I am currently on the NVIDIA TNT2 Model 64 video card. Upgrading to the Detonator 3 drivers does not help this problem. Since they have not released a fix and neither has Microsoft to fix this problem I suggest downloading the Detonator BETA drivers from http://www.3dchipset.com/beta/nvidia/list.html this has fixed my Windows Protection Errors from happening 100% since downloading the Detonator 7.17 beta drivers. Hopefully it will work for you. Please pass this on to anyone who has the same problem as I can almost guarantee it will work for at least 99% of people. I hope this has helped as it took me a while to figure this out. CYA!!!
