windows not starting?

Specs: Windows me
Hi, i've just bought a second hand computer, its a centrex 250gb sata hd, 1gb ram, amd athlon processor, anyhow it was fine for like 2 hours it was just running and i wasn't even on it but then it froze so i restarted it from the on/off button, and now windows won't start, it had ME on it but the discs i have are xp? and it won't do anything.
i have pressed delete when it starts and the setup options come up but i don't know if i should change any of them.
and i have put the disc i have in it but it just ends up saying it can't do load xp.
any help please??

Neither Win98/ME or XP natively support SATA. I don't know why you'd want to run ME, but here's what you'd have to do:

Here's a page with a lot of help on it, though it might be a bit too complicated for you (SATA is *very* complicated):

The basic point is that doing a simple re-install as the earlier poster suggested will WIPE all information/files that are on the hard disk.

The page I'm suggesting will help you repair a broken Windows setup, without wiping anything.

A 250GB disk must have at least TWO partitions ("drives") on it, as Windows ME *can't* function on a drive larger than 125GB.
