Reinstall the damn thing from microsoft.com.
It is a hideous abomination of satanic proportions and why in gods name it was ever brought forth unto this world shall never be known. If you can avoid using it then do so.There are 3 other solutions to the problem, they are as follows:
radlight (www.radlight.com)
winamp 3 (you know the site)
powerDVD (free from IMESH, legal as dope)
www.imesh.com.All those plugins and patches and .dll files, im surprised it works at all. It might even be a directx problem. you could reinstall directx from microsoft as well if you really must use media player.
winamp 3, whilst still in the beta stages, offers all the features of WMP, including full multi format video/audio support, AVS that no other software can compete with, small memory usage(although not a feature of WMP), and a fast, easy to use interface that is as a space shuttle when compared to the rusty old 2 cylinder skoda of Windows Media Player.

hello
radlight is spy ware dont get it
to check for sound goto device manager and see if you have any yello ?? marks or!!marks or red x,s
if none showing than remove sound card or other sound devices from device manager
and reboot.
if this dont fix it try up dateing sound card drivers
have a nice day

Mine started with this problem too, but mine started when I updated to windows media player 7.1. It says DLIMPORT.DLL is link to a missing export. So now I have no sound in Kazaa and media player, but have sound in music match and winamp. It seems it is a common problem, someone please help me.

I agree windows media player should have never been made public, ever since, not only does it not do what it should, but it also causes various error's in programs that have nothing to do with media files. As one person said, i'd go with winamp 3, it is no longer in beta testing, and even on my 166mhz computer, it has no equal. But, if you insist on using wmp, you might want to make sure that you have the proper codecs needed to play certain media files, i.e. divx, mpeg 4, etc. goto www.download.com and search for windows media bonus package. If this don't work, your probably screwed.
