Windows Media Player no sound

I am trying to listen to a music file using windows media player but am unable to hear any sound, the file plays but without sound, but when I use winamp I can hear the music file. Also when I try listening using Morpheus there is also no sound.
in both programs the volume is up and is not muted

I am having the same problem on my pc. I have uninstalled and installed media player. Winamp works fine. Did you figure this out.

Must be a common problem. Built my first machine last year 384mb ram 800 athlon on board sound ati graphics card no problems with winamp but w media player comes up with sound device not available plays moving graphics then sticks in a search loop. ctrl/alt/del to stop It seems the bigger the program the bigger the problems. Anybody any printable suggestions???

I, too, am having this problem. I've isntalled the latest media player version (7.1), tried an alternate sound card, updated system bios, and replaced the codecs.
ARGGG! Nothing works.

My media player doesn't play any sound, it will play the the movie, but no sound... winamp works fine, half-life works fine, but return to castle wolfenstein doesn't work (single player mode only, multiplayer sound works).. weird.

Same problem here it will play until it quits but no sound. I downloaded the 7.1 version and thats when it started doing it.
