It's not a discussion on who is sucking who, it's a message board where you should post issue's related wtih the Computer (hardware and software).

I understand fully the concept of preplanned
obsolescence. This is hardly a new concept.
However I might point out that it generally
applies to things that wear out. A car is not
an OS. I have an old 486 at home that runs
DOS 6.22, unless the hardware wears out,
DOS 6.22 will always work. I can Install DOS 6.22 on my PIII if I want and it will still
work . . . a bit of overkill but it will work.I contend that an OS becomes obsolete, not
because it was designed to wear out, rather
because we as consumers continually demand
more of our PC's than they are capable of.
Software houses, seeing that the new
hardware allows more intensive programs,
writes them to meet the new standard.Case in point:
About three years ago everyboday and their
brother was buying 400MHz Celerons and
clocking them to 6** MHz. Well that was
damn good enough then. But now those same
people, who were perfectly happy with 6**
MHz back then are buying 650 Athlons and
overclocking them to 8 and 900 MHz. Now
the chip manufacturers don't recommend
this, they don't encourage this. Nope, they
make 8 and 900 and above processors that are
immediately overclocked by the same folks.Case in Point #2:
I know about a dozen people who have image
programs on their Win98 PC's, that allow you
to view image files as thumbnails. Which
makes a great deal of sense, especially when
you have a large number of images like a
web designer might. It is now incorporated
into WinMe.I won't even get into the zip file issue that is now incorporated in to both Win98 PLUS and
WinMe.You all seem to ascribe some evil intent
behind the innovations that are occurring in
both hardware and software. You say MS and
Intel are jamming this down our throats. But
at the same time consumers are clamoring
for the latest greatest innovations that are
available.I put to you that this innovation is nothing
new, it is not limited to the computer industry and it is driven by demand, not supply. If nobody purchased WinMe, it would be gone real quick. This is not a conspiracy . . . It's called free enterprise and it has been happening here in the US for 200 years.
Personally I think you're all a bit paranoid.
I also find myself wondering if Win98 is so
damn stable, why'd you ever load Me in the
first place. And further, once you determined
that it was not for you, why didn't you switch back? It only takes about an hour and a half and you all have spent that much time
bitching about it.I'd like to leave you with one last thought.
Who's the greater fool . . . the fool himself or the fool who follows him?
