Dear Sarah81,

Try to start computer in Safe Mode. When you turn on the computer press and hold F8 (in some computer the key is different). Choose Safe mode or Last known good configuration.

If it fails Boot computer from a floppy disk. Overwrite ME (not formating and reinstalling). The setup files will be in C:\Windows\Options\Setup folder.
Boot from floppy, change to the above folder, type setup, press enter.

Plz report us about the result.

This is my humble solution, also you can wait for a better solution.

thank you

boot in safe mode if possible, or dos -c:>edit autoexec.bat ,and @ disable antivirus and firwalls if any, or remove, try scanreg to restore registry prior to error date if available, try sfc.exe for any corrupt files , scan with adaware in safe mode ...:)

Hey Spreek that sounded like a good Idea,to overwrite, I never tried that and thankfully dont need it now. But that idea was safely put away for future reference. Im sure it will save me a few hours in the future
Thanks

Bye the way I found the "setup.exe" file in

C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS

Dear sarah81,

You have no floppy disks or no floppy drive? Floppy disks are cheaper.

If you have any ME computer (friends, office) you can create a startup disk from Control panel, Startup disk.

If you dont have any ME computer, you download startup disk from www.bootdisk.com or any other sites.

Download the bootdisk for me, insert a blank, formatted floppy, double click the downloaded file, the startup disk will be created in a minute.

It was a nice idea to keep two OS in computer. If one goes wrong, you can enter the com with other one. I am using ME and 2000.

Also keep your important files other than C: drive, that means not in My Documents, Desktop. Keep in other than C:.

Dear basicdos, did you have C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\Install folder. The ME setup is in Install folder.

Thanks for all of you

Dear basicdos,

But in my ME there is only two folder, one the cabs, and other is the install folder.

The setup is in the install folder.
