I am what u say a computer USER and know nothing when problems arise. When I turn my computer on it starts off ok then this message appears" error starting program. scancomp.dll file cannot start. check file to determine problem"
Now I have no idead what I am supposed to check for. My husband says he had at one point accidently deleted a file but does not recall which one. But the computer was still working except for that dialog box. Now it just hangs. I can't do anything.
I have somehow managed to do scandisk (don't know how i managed that) and it showed no errors.
I know I sound silly but i will admit I am totally a computer idiot and I need help.
what do I do to get my computer working right again.
You have to use real simple terms cos I really don't get computer lingo.

Plain me, "scancomp.dll" is part of McAfee AV. Simply use search to locate the file and delete. Reboot and hopefully a new GOOD version of the file will get written to disk by McAfee and you won't see the box any more.
