Here is my problem, I have a Viewquest M318B USB webcam and have been having trouble in getting it to work. The problems only started when I did a clean install of Windows me, it worked fine on my old instalation of ME. When I first installed the drivers, I forgot that the camera was still plugged in and now it will not detect that its there at all. I have tried un-installing the drivers and re-installing them in the propper way with the web cam not being plugged in. I have re-installed the drivers then rebooted before plugging the camera in, but it still will not detect it. The New hardware found box will not came up at all, even when I plug in my USB scanner (which works fine when I install it manually). I have checked in the BIOS and the USB ports are enabled, but it can't be that as it is only the webcam that is the problem. I have also used the 'Add New Hardware' facility but it doesn't list my hardware. My manual says to tell it to get the drivers form c:\windows\inf but I can't access that as it is a system folder and is hidden in the list box when searching for new drivers! I have downloaded new drivers for ME of the viewquest website, and have tried telling the add new hardware wizzad to locate them there, but they dont work. And I have also tried to get the drivers from \windows\system23 but none of those work either. I am stuck now! I desperatly need to get this webcam working and I cant afford to buy another one! Those drivers that I downloaded, does anyone have any idea of where to put them? Or is there anyone who can please help me? Thanks!

Mark

have you tried " scanner and camera" from control panel?
your web cam comes with a software uninstall and reinstall it again and see if your problem is gone.also delete old webcam drivers.

HI!

Yes, ive tried that. The biggst problem is that Windows Me just doesnt reconise that the device is there. It isnt the USB ports as they can run other USB devices. But the biggst problem is that the 'New hardware found' wizzard doesnt start automatically (with any USB device that I try). I dont think that it is the hardware as it was working fine before. Any other ideas?

Mark, do you have a hub?

Even if you don't take a look at this article

Thank you for that info. I have had a look and sadly there is nothing there to help either! I did another clean install of windows me on a spare HD earlier, and even that wouldnt work, so its obviously windows me that is at fault. The thing which bugs me is that the USB auto detection worked just fine under windows 98se on the same pc. Mind you, looking at that bug list in windows me i really am not surprized that its not working! Could this be a 'out of date' BIOS problem does anyone think?

I have the exact same problem with my muztek scanner. I followed all the updates and re-installs and my usb still does not want to accept it.

I was told to unplug everything and remove TWAIN & TWUNK files relevant to the scanner. Then install the new drivers. Switch off the computer. Connect the scanner, let it detect the scanner, then reload the software, missing out the old drivers as these would interfere with the new ones.

Don't think this will help but I know what your going through.
